Located in western Knox County, Farragut is the first true "suburb" of Knoxville, with a population of 17,720 (2000 Census). Its borders are roughly defined by Interstate 40 on the North, the Tennessee River (Ft. Loudon Lake) on the South, Lovell Road on the East and the Knox County line on the West.

Farragut is a community comprised mostly of residential housing. Commerce is centered on the financial, service and retail sectors. As is also the case in West Knoxville, most of this commerce is concentrated around Kingston Pike (U.S. Route 11 - U.S. Route 70). Most of the rest of the community is occupied by housing subdivisions and parks.

At the top of the market are waterfront and golf communities, offering a resort lifestyle in convenient proximity to Knoxville.
